What happens if I have the first dose of the vaccine and I get infected?

Many people had been infected after receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. As a result, many people are afraid vaccines are ineffective against the virus. So they may wonder if a second dose should be necessary and or not.

It's essential to remember that the first dose does not guarantee complete immunity against Covid-19; hence many people can become infected after receiving the first shot, especially those who refuse to use a mask or follow social distancing as recommended.

So, what to do if I get infected after receiving my first dose of a two-dose vaccination scheme?

There's enough evidence suggesting that even when the first dose does not protect you entirely from getting infected, it does help attenuate the disease's progression. However, every person infected after receiving any dose of the vaccine must follow the same recommendations as any unvaccinated adult.

So you have to remain isolated for at least ten days, check for any symptoms permanently and be aware of any event that requires direct attention from the medical staff.

Also, evidence suggests that after been cleared from acute infection, if you'd received the first dose from any two-dose scheme, a second shot won't be necessary. This is because natural antibodies produced by infection added to those created by the first shot are enough to make long-lasting immunity in most adults. Anyway, suppose you are advised on receiving a second dose. In that case, this should be administered 90 days after the past infection. However, this time may change to 30 days for those patients at risk, immunosuppressed or older than 60.
